Laura Taitz BCom, MBA

Laura is the co-founder of MedEarth. Laura is Principal Product Manager at Envizi, a global, cloud based software platform that distills complex sustainability and energy data into powerful insights in order to help businesses drive efficiency, profitability and improved environmental outcomes. Laura has held various IT project management positions for organisations such as Dimension Data and Perpetual and has consulted to not-for-profits including Asthma Foundation NSW, BlackDog Institute and Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Laura is a past director of the National Council of Jewish Women NSW and was the founder and inaugural Chairperson of the MUM FOR MUM program in Australia.

Brett Rubin BCom (Hons in tax), CPA

Brett is Finance Director of Panavision Asia Pacific. Panavision is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of high precision lenses for the motion picture and television industries and one of the world’s leading providers of camera systems, including both film and digital cameras. Panavision rents it systems through its company-owned, global facilities and distribution network. Brett also is the Managing Director of John Barry Sales, a wholesaler and retailer of equipment to the film and television industry. Brett is a highly accomplished commercial and finance executive with strong domestic and international corporate experience, he has worked in a number of industries including health, retail and franchising and brings a wealth of knowledge in relation to finance and logistics.

David Hirsch BCom (Marketing), BA (Psychology)

David is Director of Campaign & Performance Marketing at Bupa Australia, with a remit across Domestic, Corporate, International and Student Health Insurance including Bupa’s general insurance products Travel, Pet, Home, Car and Life insurance. David has previously held digital and marketing roles at Bupa, Visa, Westpac, Medibank, Roses Only and other ventures. David is passionate about health care and aligns this passion in his career and personal life through his participation in surfing, cycling and the occasional competitive event. He is also a Life Saver at Coogee Surf Club and actively involved in their Nippers program.


Jonny is Director of Paediatric Patient Safety at the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission and is a consultant general paediatrician in private practice. Jonny did his paediatric training at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town and at Sydney Children’s Hospital where he then worked as a consultant paediatrician and Assistant Director of Clinical Operations. Jonny was Director of Medical Services at Royal North Shore Hospital. Jonny was awarded a Harkness Fellowship in quality and safety and spent a year at Harvard Medical School, Boston. Jonny is a member of Variety The Children’s Charity medical grants committee and was a long standing board member and former Vice Chairperson of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. Jonny is immediate past Chairperson of the SMILE Foundation. Jonny has run 30 marathons and over 100 half marathons all over the world and is a massive rugby union and cricket fan.

Dr Richard Hirschson MBChB, FCP(SA), MRCP (London)

Richard is a fellow in intensive care medicine at Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney where he is responsible for patients admitted to the general and cardiothoracic ICU. He is involved with all aspects of acute care medicine including the High Dependancy unit and emergency department. Richard did his internal medicine training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town and then ran a successful private practice from Milnerton Mediclinic in Cape Town for 10 years specialising in internal medicine, ICU and sleep medicine. Richard was the head and administrator of the Medical Department and the Chair of the Morbidity and Mortality Committee. Richard has an interest in economics, monetary history and the precious metals markets. He is also actively involved in triathlons and long-distance cold water swimming.

Katrina Hamilton PgD (Management & Marketing)

Katrina is a senior Strategic Marketing professional with experience across a range of multinational organisations in Australia and the UK, including Prospa, ANZ Bank and Macquarie Bank. Her roles have seen her lead large scale strategic marketing campaigns for ANZ including Spectrum Now Festival, Mardi Gras and numerous B2B campaigns. Campaign highlights including winning a Cannes Gold Lion award in the Media category for the ANZ GAYNZ celebrating Sydney Mardi Gras. Having grown up in rural Zimbabwe and South Africa, with a Mother who worked as a community nurse, Katrina has seen first-hand the gap between Australia’s abundance and the scarcity in developing countries. This experience drew her to MedEarth and the commitment to expand their positive impact and life changing work.

Operations Manager

Rebecca Truong BBs

Rebecca has a background in high performance team management, project management and consulting with 20 years+ working in large IT and Financial Services corporations. Rebecca has held various senior positions for organisations such as  PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dimension Data, Perpetual Trustee and Skandia Australia. She had also worked as an independent consultant with extensive experience in assisting clients in change management and IT related needs. Rebecca is passionate about making a tangible difference to the lives of communities in the developing world.

Engagement Manager

Bree Sutherland BIntBus, BSocSc
Bree has extensive local and international experience in the Corporate Social Responsibility sector. She comes from a background in business development, project leadership and account management, having worked with prominent organisations in the Sustainability and Corporate Community Investment space. She has worked in both Corporate & Not-For-Profit roles and is genuinely passionate about having a positive impact on the world in which we live.

Lara Garfinkel BA, LLB

Lara co-founded MedEarth together with Laura in 2013 and was a board member until February 2017. Lara was most recently a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills, a leading global law firm, where she worked with the Head of Pro Bono and Community to develop the strategic direction of the firm’s pro bono program. Lara managed all requests for pro bono legal assistance and had responsibility in Australia for pro bono secondments and internal and external pro bono programs and clinics. Lara established a program at Herbert Smith Freehills to provide free legal advice to Indigenous Australians setting up their own business. Lara has a background in corporate law and extensive experience in working with charities and not for profits enabling them to achieve their objectives.
